Halle-Vagnaren - primeval forest and panoramic views

In the nature conservation area on Høgdalsneset in Strömstad municipality, you look straight across to the Hvalerøyene in one moment. In the next you are in one of the best preserved coastal primeval forests in Sweden. Many of the pine trees are well over 300 years old. The trip starts at Vagnsjö, a small pond in the middle of the forest. Mostly you walk in forest terrain. The trails are well marked. The forest is varied, in some places quite open, in other places denser. Abo

Ramsvik and the Sote canal

Ramsvik Nature Reserve is located between Smögen and Hunnebostrand. It was originally a peninsula but was split from the mainland when creating the Sote canal. The canal was planned as early as the 19th century but was first opened in 1935. It provides safe inland intersection between Hunnebostrand and Smögen. The area outside the Ramsvik nature reserve (on the left side of the canal in the picture above) is one of the most wind exposed places on the west coast of Sweden. By

Runde island- Puffins and beautiful nature

The Runde island on Sunnmøre has the Norwegian Sea as its nearest neighbor. One of the most important nesting places for puffins is found on the west side of the Runde mountain. The S-shaped road on the mountain slope in the picture above is the road up to the plateau and the two peaks on Rundefjellet. The first part is paved and quite steep. Further up to the plateau, the trail is paved with stone slabs to withstand the 40,000 - 50,000 people who visit the island annually in

Stensvik - Sweden's westernmost point

Sweden's westernmost point is only a few kilometers from Strømstad. It must be Sweden's most anonymous and secluded attraction. For those who like to go exploring, it's a nice goal. Along the road there are smooth rocks and shallow sand beaches. Time can be merciless to old woodworking in a rough environment with sun, wind and salt. The first part of the trail goes through idylic forests. When you stand at the top of Varden, which marks Sweden's westernmost point, you will se

Nansenparken - Fornebu in new costume

If you want a little nostalgia and like to be reminded of how it was when Fornebu was the country's main airport and the only place where something was open on Sundays - or if you just want to do something - take the family to the Nansen Park at Fornebulandet. Fornebu is an exciting urban development area where more than eight thousand residential units and countless commercial buildings will be built. Fortunately, city developers have taken care of the opportunities for recr

Norefjell - Høgevarde - short trip to the top

Next to Gaustadtoppen, Høgevarde is the place in Norway where you have best view to surrounding mountains. It is an easy top to climb and is well suited for children. The peak is located 1459 meters above sea level. It takes approx. 2 1/2 hours to climb it (more with children) and almost an hour less to go down again. There are several routes to the top. One of the most popular ones is from Tempelseter. There are two marked trails - a blue of 5.5 km and a white of 7 km. Altho

Mørkgonga - a gap for selfie

By Steinsfjorden on the border between Ringerike and Hole is one of the country's most spectacular gorges - a crack in the lava plate that covers Krokskogen. Mørkgonga nature reserve has an interesting geology and a varied and beautiful nature. The gorge is one hundred meters deep and 3 meters wide. The path from Steinsfjorden to Mørkgonga is approx. two kilometers long and has a rise of 450 meters with a 45 degree slope in some places. An alternative is to go from Damtjern i
