15 kilometers from the city of Trelleborg and just west of the small town of Smygehamn in Skåne lies Sweden's southernmost promontory, Smygehuk. From here there is a view out over the Baltic Sea towards Zealand to the west, Germany to the south and Bornholm to the east. There is a large parking lot and a viewpoint on site. Large barns have been converted into shops with souvenirs, crafts and applied arts. There is an idyllic marina and an old lighthouse nearby. There are several cafes and stalls by the harbor.

A platform with benches marks Sweden's southernmost point at Smygehuk. It is located just west of the small town of Smygehamn, which is Sweden's southernmost town. Both Smygehuk and Smygehamn are located in Trelleborg municipality. Trelleborg city is one of the oldest cities in Skåne. Trelleborg has had close connections with Denmark and was once Danish.

Smygehamn was called Östratorp until 1950 when it was renamed Smygehamn. It was originally an important shipping port for lime and a fishing village. Some of the lime kilns in the area are still preserved. A lighthouse was built at Smygehuk in 1883, which was important for boat traffic for a long time, but has now been converted into a hostel. Today, tourism is the most important economic basis for Smygehamn and Smygehuk. Every year, more than 300,000 visitors come to Smygehuk to see Sweden's southernmost point.
