Just off the E6 between Oslo and Lillehammer at the height of Gjøvik you will find Mjøsparken. It is an activity park by Lake Mjøsa in Brumunddal. The park has a large area with a sandy beach, restaurants, lawns, basketball court, skateboarding track, park with benches and beautiful flowers, mini golf, and a playground for children. Adjacent is Wood Hotel, Mjøstårnet - the world's second tallest wooden building. Møsparken is a lovely place to take a break from driving. You can also charge your car while relaxing.
Mjøsparken is located on a converted industrial site. For almost 100 years, Strandsaga was located here. In 1916, a sawmill was set up that cut timber that was transported by waterway across Lake Mjøsa. The sawmill was closed down in 1940, but the area was used as a timber warehouse until 1998. In 1941, fiberboard production began from sawdust and shavings. This required large amounts of water, and two large pump houses were therefore built to pump water up from Lake Mjøsa. The northern one was converted into a cultural monument in 2019, while the southern one still pumps water to Moelven Langmoen AS and Tine Meieriet Brumunddal. There are posters in several places in the area that tell about remnants from the industrial era.
The work to convert the industrial site into a park began in 2016 and is expected to be completed in 2023. It is therefore still a new park. It has become a beautiful area between a heavily trafficked highway and Norway's largest lake. One of the things that characterizes the park is all the flowers and hiking trails.
At the southern end of the park is a pier where the paddle steamer Skibladner, popularly called "Mjøsa's white swan", docks. It is the world's oldest paddle steamer in operation. It can take you on a round trip on Mjøsa. It was built at the Motala shipyard in Sweden in 1854. In 1888 it was rebuilt at Akers Mekaniske Verksted. It was extended by twenty feet and got a new steam engine and boiler. The engine has 606 horsepower and is the same as that used today. The boat is 165 feet long, seventeen feet wide and six feet deep. It has a cruising speed of twelve knots and a maximum speed of fourteen knots. It can take 230 passengers and can have a maximum crew of twenty.

Getting there: Enter Mjøsparken on Google Maps. This will take you straight to the parking lot. Alternatively, you can turn off the E6 between Lillestrøm and Lillehammer at the level of Gjøvik. There are signs to the park. There is good parking in the area, and there is also a charging station for electric cars.
