Nesøya in Asker has a long shoreline, but few places where you as a guest feel welcome because most of it is privatized. However, Hvamodden is an honorable exception. Here you will find a nice sandy beach with a grassy area and a hiking trail around a rocky area with pine forest - which everyone can use. There is also a car park with free parking for 3 hours nearby.

If you continue along the beach out onto the headland on the left in the picture above, you will come to a new beach area with flat cliffs with the typical cross-facing slate layer found in the Oslofjord.

There is a path along the beach that you can follow around the entire headland. There is also a small intimate sandy beach here.

On the other side of the promontory, where the cliffs are steeper, a footbridge has been built along the edge which you can follow around the promontory and further a short distance past some white bathhouses.

It is also nice to visit the area in winter when nature is dressed in white.

Although most of the shoreline on Nesøya is privatized, there are smaller beach areas that the public can use. There are also regulated 2 meter wide footpaths down to these, but the landowners are not exactly doing their best to ensure that these are easily visible and accessible. That is why Nesøya Eldres Vel has taken the initiative to have a map showing these areas made. You can find the map at nesøykart.no.

This week's excursion: Hvamodden on Nesøya in Asker - sandy beach and hiking trail
Suitable for: Everyone. Wheelchairs and prams go well on the main beach, but not on the walking path around the headland. There are toilets in the area.
Getting there: If you search for "Vestre vei 96 parking" on Google Maps, you will come straight to the car park where you can park. Alternatively: Drive E18 from Oslo towards Drammen. Turn off towards Nesøya at the first exit after Sandvika. Follow the signs to Nesøya. Follow the main road until it ends in a dead end. Here you see a bathing beach on the right and a car park on the left. Park the car here and walk the 200 meters down to the beach.
