The small town of Hunnebostrand is the oldest known coastal community in Bohuslän with roots dating back to the 13th century. Fishing and trade have been important industries for centuries, but in recent decades tourism has taken over. The settlement has approx. 1,800 permanent residents and many visitors by car or boat.
The sheltered harbor has always been a safe place for boats. That is the case even now when the tourist boats dominate.
Hunnebostrand has cozy streets with old wooden buildings and many restaurants.
The harbor is worth a visit. There is also a walking path around the small island which is connected to the mainland at the southern end via the small bridge in the picture above.
Start the round by walking along the pier on the east side of the island. On the west side you will find beautiful rocky cliffs and small beaches.
On the north side of the settlement, there is a sculpture park on what used to be a quarry where granite was extracted for cobblestones, tombstones, sculptures, monuments and other things.
With the beautiful archipelago as a backdrop on one side and the rough remnants of the quarry on the other, this is a beautiful exhibition place for art and a nice place to walk.
Some of the artworks are mounted on shelves in the rock or set on blocks of stone from the quarrying era. You should therefore use your eyes well to take in everything.
The place is called Udden. The name probably comes from the fact that there was a headland with a rock that went directly into the sea.
Udden in Hunnebostrand was one of the largest quarries in Sweden when it was opened in the middle of the 19th century. The business gave rise to large revenues from both exports and domestic sales until it was closed in the middle of the 20th century.
There are plans to create an industrial museum adjacent to the sculpture park where art and stone industry can meet - the so-called "Stenens hus" (house of the rocks).
Where the park starts, there are steps up to a viewpoint. From here you get an overview of Hunnebostrand, the art park and the archipelago beyond.
In the area near Hunnebostrand you can also visit the popular coastal town of Smögen ( https://www.turideer.com/post/smögen-kystperlen-en-vakker-fiskeby ) with the distinctive island of Hållö outside ( https://www.turideer. com/post/hållö-en-juvel-fra-istiden ), the beautiful nature reserve Ramsvikslandet ( https://www.turideer.com/post/ramsvik-og-sote-kanal ), or the animal park Nordens Ark ( https:// www.turideer.com/post/nordens-ark-dyrepark-i-sotenäs ).

This week's excursion: The seaside resort of Hunnebostrand with the sculpture park at Udden
Fits everyone. Wheelchairs and prams are fine in the harbor and the sculpture park, but not on the hike around the small island or the hike to the viewpoint.
Getting there: Drive E6 to 101 Glåborgmotet a few miles north of Uddevalla on Sweden's west coast. Turn off there onto national road 163 towards Smögen. Then follow the signs for Smögen and Hunnebostrand.
