The hike described in this post goes from the hotel Guadalest Galaxy to a disused helipad behind the Sierra Polop mountain range. The route runs through beautiful nature with sharp cliffs where you get a view of the Guadalest valley, Polop, Puig Campana and the so-called shark's jaw between Finestrat and Sella. The trip takes approx. 3 hours, and you go back and forth the same way.
The route starts at Hotell Guadalest Galaxy at CV-70 a little before the descent to Guadalest. When driving the CV-70 from Polop towards Guadalest, turn left a short distance after passing the Rincon de Pepe restaurant on the right. There is a sign marked Hotel to a narrow, bad road that goes sharply to the left. This is at the top of the slopes before you begin the descents to Guadalest village. Follow this narrow road until you reach a green water tank on the right. Right after it, it is possible to park on the shoulder on the left.
Continue straight ahead until you reach a fork in the road at the entrance to Hotel Guadalest Galaxy.
Continue straight ahead until you after approx. 500 meters will come to a new crossroads where you should again turn right. This is more of a wide path than a road leading up to a cliff.
After approx. 100 meters (600 meters in total from the car park) there is a white/yellow-marked path to the left. (Do not take the path just before that is marked with a cross).
From here it is easy to find the way. Just follow the white/yellow-marked path for just over 4 km until you reach a plateau. Along the way, you will have a view of beautiful nature with the Guadalest valley and the Mediterranean Sea on the left and sharp cliffs in various colors on the right.
When you reach the plateau, you will see a white house straight ahead. It is a disused Baptist monastery that has recently been refurbished. Next to the building is a field that has previously been used for agriculture.
The route continues on the path to the left as shown in the picture above, but it may be worth taking a look at the monastery and the disused helicopter landing pad which you will find by walking 30-40 meters straight ahead. It is overgrown and not so easy to see today.
The route continues on the path that goes left as you reach the plateau. Follow this path for approx. 1 km until the landscape opens up, and the path begins to descend again on the other side. There it may be appropriate to take a lunch break while admiring the view before returning to the car the way you came.
The picture below shows the view you get. Here you can see the Sella mountain on the right. Straight ahead you see a circular chain of sharp cliffs called the shark's jaw. To the left you see the mountain Puig Campana with the characteristic notch on top.
