In the forest near Grebbestad on the west coast of Sweden lies a small red living room that is now used as a café during the summer months. The house was originally built in the early 18th century on the island of Pinnö in the archipelago just outside Grebbestad. In 1844 it was moved to Falkeröd where it is now located. There is a small campsite there too, and a marked hike in the Falkeröd nature reserve nearby. In the evening you can go to the pizza restaurant in the barn and listen to a concert or a lecture.

In 1830, the Grebbestad area was hit by a cholera epidemic. The then owner of the early 18th century wooden house in the picture above survived the disease but was forced to demolish the house due to the risk of infection. However, he took care of the materials, moved them to Falkeröd, and in 1844 he rebuilt the house as it had been. Later it was used as a small farm until the late 1940s when Tanums municipality took over the property. After that, Tanums Hembygdsförening has been responsible for the buildings and surrounding enclosures.

Tanum Hembygsförening has chosen to create a garden café (tredgårdskafé) in the main house and a pizza restaurant in the barn below. The café is furnished with period furniture from the time the house was in use. The pizza restaurant is also used for cultural events. The land next to it is used as a campsite where you can pitch a tent or rent one of the four glamping tents with a terrace and built-in oven. There is also space for campers on the lower side.

In the 18th century, low houses were built. Here, adults must bend down to enter the door, and slightly taller people must be careful of the ceiling beams in the rooms inside. The low ceiling height contributes to a warm, pleasant, and slightly different atmosphere than you are used to.

The café serves fresh baked goods, but also lunch dishes. All dishes are vegetarian.

By the barn there is a free-standing stage where established and up-and-coming artists perform. In addition to concerts, activities such as casino and yoga are also held.

Falkeröds Hembygdsgård is closed in winter, but can be rented for events such as weddings, birthdays, or other parties. In December there is a Christmas market in the barn. From midsummer until August 31st the café is open every day from 11 am to 4 pm. If you want to use the marked trail Falkerödsleden in the nature reserve nearby, you can also see Greby burial ground from the Iron Age.
