On the west side of the Embalse de Amadorio dam in Villajoyosa on the Costa Blanca in Spain, there is nice hiking terrain. The route described here is partly a round trip. You start at the car park at the Embalse de Amadorio. Go back 100 meters, turn right onto a road that leads to a tunnel. Go through this and then over the dam.
Here you enter a new tunnel with a couple of built-in viewpoints.
On the other side you get a good overview of the dam and the dam wall.
Then follow the road straight ahead to a roadblock. Continue on the dirt road that goes uphill to the left.
Eventually, the route will be partly marked yellow/white, but the marks are far apart, and they are not always easy to spot. If you see a blue mark from older markings, you are on the right track.
When you have reached a plateau, there will be a fork in the road. Here you turn right.
Later you will come to another fork in the road. Here you should choose the path that runs along the slope to the right.
Continue straight ahead until you reach a T-junction. A round trip starts from here. You go down to the left and will later come back from the road that comes down from the right.
After turning left, continue until you reach a junction where a paved road goes up to the right. Turn right here.
Continue on this road until you reach a water reservoir on the left. In the picture below you see the view in the opposite direction towards the Mediterranean and Benidorm.
On the other side of the pond, continue straight ahead. From here the trail is marked yellow/white.
Continue on the dirt road until you come to signs showing the direction of various walking routes.
At this sign, turn right onto the path that goes up a relatively steep and long hill.
At the top of this hill, a break may be appropriate.
From here, just continue straight ahead. Eventually, the road will be covered with concrete. It is a steady descent all the way.
When you return to the T-junction, turn left and continue the way you came back to the car park at Embalse de Amadorio.
