A few kilometers north-east of Alicante city is an 80-metre wide and 6.2 km long beach with fine-grained sand. It consists of the 2.9 km long Playa de San Juan which belongs to the municipality of San Juan, and the 3.3 km long Playa de Muchavista which belongs to the municipality of El Campello. However, this is one continuous long urban sandy beach with a wide paseo inside with palm trees, benches and restaurants. If you walk the beach back and forth, you get a walk along the coast of 12.4 km.
Playa de Muchavista was once named one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the Alicante region by National Geographic. Here there is clean water and clean beaches. Both Playa de Muchavista and Playa de San Juan are popular and much visited, especially in high season. Out of season, you can have large parts of the beach to yourself. From the beach you can see the towns of Villajoyosa and Benidorm and the mountains of Puig Campana, Aitana and Cabezón de Oro.
The beach is shallow and child-friendly when it is calm, but when it is windy, the waves can become high and dangerous when they break against the shallow beach. During the season, there is a lifeguard along the entire beach.
