The eastern part of Altea's coastline has always been a beach with a promenade (paseo) within it. For decades, however, parts of the western coastline - Playa de Bol - have been taken over by a road and a parking lot. In 2023, work began on converting the parking lot into a beach. Now the city has 800 meters longer coastline. In addition, both the paseo and the beach have become wider. Playa de Bol has once again become a real beach. This post describes the entire Altea paseo from the harbor to the río Algar.

The route starts at Altea port where there are good parking facilities. The first beach you reach when walking east from the port is Playa de la Roda. Then comes Playa de Bol. Here, countless loads of gravel have been driven in to expand the beach out into the sea. This has resulted in a good and wide beach and a spacious and beautiful paseo inside.

With the upgrade of the paseo, the municipality has wanted to provide a meeting place for people of all ages. There is exercise equipment for adults, play equipment for children, benches, art and plenty of beach space for those who want to swim and sunbathe. In addition, there is a mix of nice shops and countless restaurants within the paseo where you can eat or just have a cup of coffee or a refreshment.

At the other end of the shoreline, both the beach and the promenade are narrower. However, the scenery is perhaps even more beautiful, especially at the end where the Algar River flows into the Mediterranean. When you have walked to the end of the promenade, you have covered 2.5 km.
