A few minutes on the metro from Oslo city centre you will find the Botanical Garden and the Natural History Museum at Tøyen. The garden is divided into several thematic sections and has a total of more than 4,500 plant species from all over the world. It was established in 1814 and is the country's oldest botanical garden.
The garden is a popular place to look at beautiful flowers, walk through high avenues or just relax on a bench.
You can visit the museum, the Palm Garden, the greenhouse or have a cup of coffee or some food at the restaurant.
The Museum of National History and the Botanical Garden are used for research, teaching and dissemination. One of the purposes is to create an understanding of the importance of preserving nature's species richness.
