Frognerelva is one of the 11 rivers that flow through Oslo. The water comes from Sognsvann, but the Frognerelva starts at Frøen where Gaustadbekken and Sognsvannsbekken flow together, and ends in Frognerkilen. It is seven kilometers long. Much of it is laid in culverts, but some parts are open. The most beautiful part runs from the entrance to Øvre Frognerdam through Vigelandsparken and Frognerparken and down to Skøyen. In this section there is a hiking trail along the river.

Øvre and Nedre Frognerdam are part of the Frognerelva. The picture above shows the waterfall in Frognerelva after Nedre Frognerdam.

Although in most places you have the feeling of being in a forest, it is a short distance to the buildings on both sides. Here are many stately mansions in one of the city's most fashionable and expensive areas.

While you are on a trip along the Frognerelva, you should also take in the beautiful Vigelandsparken with all the wonderful sculptures in granite, wrought iron and bronze by the sculptor Gustav Vigeland. The sculptures are the result of 40 years of work. Read more about Vigelandsparken here (https://www.turideer.com/post/vigelandsparken-grønn-kunstlunge-i-oslo).

Frognerparken is the largest park in Oslo's inner city. Vigelandsparken is located in the middle of Frognerparken. There are three places to eat in Frognerparken: "Anne på Landet" which has simple, home-made organic food. Café Vigeland, which has freshly baked baked goods, and Herregårdskroen, which has à la carte and a great view of Holmenkollen.

The route starts at the entrance to Frognerparken next to Frognerbadet. In Frognerparken and Vigelandsparken there are hiking trails i all directions. Follow one of them down to the pond next to Frognerbadet. Then just follow the Frogner River on footpaths past Øvre and Nedre Frognerdam and continue down the left side of the river until you reach Skøyen where the river enters a culvert.
