On the edge of the center of Strömstad at Axelsson Marin, just beyond the ferry quay, a new hiking trail has recently (2024) opened over the so-called Oljeberget - a small mountain that formerly contained stores of oil and petrol. At the top you get a nice view of Strömstad town, the archipelago towards Koster and the strait that leads to Hålkedalen beach. This is a nice little trip for the whole family.

The route starts at the public car park at Axellson Marin. The first part is a bit steep, but the hiking route is laid out in hairpin bends so that the climb is not so demanding. After this, the hiking route goes through forest terrain.

Keep to the right when you come to a crossroads in the forest. The route continues in a loop that returns to this point after you have been to the top.

When you approach the top of Oljeberget, the path leads to a viewpoint where you get an overview of Strömstad town with the ferry dock and Axelsson Marin and on to Hålkedalen.

When you reach the top, you continue straight ahead on the blue-marked hiking path until you approach HÃ¥lkedalen beach. Here you follow the first footpath/dirt road to the left. It leads back to the car park.
